Lamproom
The lamp room was a focal point of the pit. Each shift miners reported to the lamp room to pick up their lamps and checks. It was the job of the lampman or lamp keeper to maintain the colliery’s lamps.
The condition of the lamps was checked in the lamp room after every shift. Damaged lamps would be repaired or replaced. Each lamp would be cleaned, refilled with oil, and locked ready for the next shift.
