It’s a little-known fact that many charities wouldn’t survive without gifts in Wills. By remembering the National Coal Mining Museum in this way, you will be ensuring that the important stories of coal mining are kept alive for future generations to learn about and appreciate.
There are a number of ways to remember the Museum in your Will. Your solicitor can advise the best way for you.
You can include a gift when you first make your will, or if you later decide to leave a gift, your existing will can be changed by the addition of a codicil by your solicitor.
Three of the most common methods of leaving a gift in a will are:
- Pecuniary Legacy – a gift of a specific sum of money (this can be index-linked to preserve its value)
- Residuary Legacy – a gift of the residue (or a share of the residue) of your estate
- Specific Legacy – a gift of a specific property or asset, for example buildings, land or shares, etc.
Thank you for considering leaving the Museum a gift in your Will. No matter how big or small, your contribution is greatly appreciated.
If you do choose to leave a gift, please ensure that you include our registered charity name: National Coal Mining Museum for England Trust Ltd, and our registered charity number: 517325.
We do also ask that if possible, your legacy is made without stating a specific project or purpose, as the Museum’s needs and plans can change unforeseeably over time.

Remember A Charity
Now more than ever, we’re relying on gifts in Wills from supporters like you to help our work live on.
The last 18 months have prompted many of us to reflect on the things that matter the most – family, friends and the causes close to your heart. We’ve also been reminded of the value of planning for the future, to help look after the things we care about most.
Remember A Charity Week, from 6 to 12 September, is the perfect opportunity to consider passing on something wonderful by leaving a gift in your Will. After taking care of your family and friends, even a small amount can make a huge impact. A gift in your Will could help us to keep the story of coal mining alive for
generations to come
