The remains of a pony skull was found at an opencast site in old workings of the Yard seam, 47m below ground level. The opencast site was Coalfield Farm near Ashby-de-la-Zouche in Leicestershire.

It is likely that when the pony died, it was buried underground and was found when the old workings were dug up during the open-casting process.
