Meet Peggy Thorpe
Saturday 25th May - Sunday 2nd June
Meet Peggy in our back yard reconstruction and learn about her life as a miner’s wife in the 1940’s and the Bevin Boy who boarded with her. Travel back in time and discover the secrets of Peggy Thorpe, a 1940s miner’s wife.
Monday 27th May - Friday 31st May
Hoof it to the National Coal Mining Museum in May where our ponies Eric, Ernie and Bud are celebrating Finn’s birthday. Visit the stables and say hello then have a go at our special horsey crafts during May Half Term. Explore your creative side with our pony-themed paper crafting (weekdays only from 12.30 - 4pm).
And after that, don't miss out on experiencing the underground mine and even head outside for some fresh air in the adventure playground!
Over the holidays, hop on to our on-site train that will take you on a journey from Caphouse up to Hope Pit, where you can see original buildings including the Fan Room, Compressor House, the Workshop in Blacksmith's Forge and some of our larger items in Hope Store!
- Train rides cost £1.50 and it is fully accessible to pushchairs and wheelchairs
- The workshop at Blacksmith's Forge is open from Wednesday to Sunday 9am - 4pm. Drop in and see our resident blacksmiths, Jayne and Martin, display their craft! Demonstrations at 11:30am and 2pm.
