Rocks and Fossils (SEND)
A morning of activities including museum led activities and self-led exploration on a Rocks and Fossils theme. Students will uncover the world beneath their feet, and make a fossil to take home.
This would be especially suitable for students age 8-15 years.
Day would be 1 x 30 minute meet & greet that will go over visual itinerary for the day. Following this, there will be the 1 hour sensory workshop.

In this hands-on, sensory workshop, students will discover the world beneath their feet. Participants will have the opportunity to engage with various aspects of geology and paleontology through interactive and sensory activities. The workshop includes:
- An immersive Carboniferous Forest experience
- Rock classification activities
- Fossil identification activities The chance to “cook up” some coal
- Making a fossil
By the end of this workshop, the students should know:
- Recognise that coal is a ‘sedimentary’ rock and is over 300 million years old
- Know that coal, along with the other rocks here at the Museum, are all sedimentary.
- Understand how coal and other sedimentary were formed.
