The National Coal Mining Museum for England opens the doors of its new café with ‘fresh approach’ caterers Asparagus Green on 2 February 2015.

The much awaited re-opening of the National Coal Mining Museum for England’s café will take place on 2 February 2015. Serving a wonderful selection of freshly cooked food from delicious hot dishes to homemade cakes, the new café will treat visitors to an authentic Yorkshire dining experience.

This year, the National Coal Mining Museum for England are welcoming a new source of energy and before you assume it is all about the black gold, this new wave of energy comes in the form of Asparagus Green Catering, the new contract caterer for the West Yorkshire museum. Although only recently set-up, the operation is led by no fledgling caterer; Mr Anthony Hegney has over twenty-five years’ experience in catering.

With a start-up workforce of only ten employees, Asparagus Green is looking to sprinkle its fresh approach to the National Coal Mining Museum for England’s café outlet. As part of this strategy, special attention will be given to providing varied and healthy menu options for families at competitive prices, with themes reflecting the region’s heritage of coal mining. With Yorkshire always in mind, Asparagus Green is committed to using products and ingredients sourced from the county, including pork products from Greedy Little Pig, and a selection of cakes from Proper maid to add to the selection baked on site, Yorkshire tea from Taylors of Harrogate & coffee roasted in Meltham’s from Grumpy Mule. The dedication to developing local knowledge and skills is also demonstrated from Asparagus Green’s partnership with Kirklees College and their apprenticeship scheme.

Asparagus Green’s fresh approach will also extend into developing the Conferences & Events side of the museum’s catering operation. With Anthony’s strong background in diverse events of all sizes at various national sites, Asparagus Green hopes to build up the reputation of the National Coal Mining Museum for Englandas a premier venue for both daytime and evening events. So come and discover what we are passionate about at Asparagus Green. The Café is open daily from 9am to 5pm at the National Coal Mining Museum for England.
