Following further negotiations with UNISON,industrial action, largely affecting our Underground Tours, is confirmed to take place until Sunday 12 October. Although Underground Tours will be unavailable during this period, theMuseum Remains Open, and continues to share the important history of coal mining with our visitors. This black and white photograph shows Mr Ronald Ives at Old Roundwood pit with a horse in harness in the pit yard.
Mr Ives was a blacksmith and farrier, and would look after the showing of the ponies. Skilled farriers would cold shoe, allowing them to work underground.
