Interim Head of Visitor Operations & Experience
3–6 months, from July 2026
The National Coal Mining Museum for England is seeking to appoint an interim Head of Visitor Operations & Experience.
About the role
You will lead a full review of the visitor journey, from pre-visit through to post-visit, while ensuring the delivery of an outstanding on-site experience across the summer and autumn. Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, you’ll coordinate visitor-facing teams, support major events, and contribute to both immediate operational delivery and long-term strategic planning.
Key responsibilities
- Review and enhance the end-to-end visitor experience
- Lead day-to-day delivery of high-quality visitor operations, including on-site team coordination
- Support planning and delivery of events and programme activity
- Contribute to the Museum’s 10-year Masterplan and feasibility study
- Help deliver improvement projects across the site, including contractor coordination
- Review and implement policies, processes and documentation (e.g. H&S, booking systems, quality monitoring)
