Wacky Wednesday Volunteer
Wacky Wednesday is a lively weekly session (term-time) for children under five and their carers. Through storytelling, singing, crafts and hands-on activities, young families explore fun themes linked to the National Coal Mining Museum and everyday life.
What is the role?
As a Wacky Wednesday Volunteer, you’ll help create a fun and friendly environment for families. You’ll support Museum staff in delivering creative activities and ensuring everyone feels welcome.
Typical tasks include:
- Welcoming families and helping them settle into the session
- Helping set up crafts and activities
- Supporting children and carers with simple craft activities
- Joining in with songs, stories and themed activities
- Tidying and packing away at the end of the session
- Planning future sessions as a team
What We’re Looking For
We welcome volunteers who are:
- Friendly, enthusiastic and approachable
- Comfortable interacting with young children and families
- Happy to get creative and join in with activities
- Reliable and able to work as part of a small team
- Experience working with children is helpful but not essential – enthusiasm and a positive attitude are the most important qualities.
Time commitment: Wednesdays (term-time), approx. 9am – 11.30am (doesn’t have to be every single week).
