Roots & Renewal

Roots & Renewal is a powerful new sensory exhibition curated by the SPARK Youth Arts Ambassadors. Inspired by their visit to the National Coal Mining Museum, the exhibition traces the transformation of mining landscapes from black to green, celebrating Caphouse Colliery’s journey from industrial site to a thriving place of nature and creativity.

Featuring recycled and repurposed materials, Roots & Renewal highlights the Museum’s innovative mine water treatment scheme, where reed beds cleanse water and leave behind vibrant ochre – a symbol of renewal and environmental care.

This youth-led project is supported by Prosper and Creative Minds, and proudly forms part of the Natural History Museum’s Fixing Our Broken Planet programme.
