Apart from fake news and the conflict which tore communities apart, the strike was a time for solidarity and community, ‘days of laughter and days of pain’.

Explore these twin themes, with Ian Parks, using primary source materials from the time. Come with a blank page and leave with a poem that engages the tensions of that unique period from the not too distant past.

£10 per person, pre-booking advised. Suitable for ages 16+. Select the June date for this workshop.

Ian Parks, the son of a miner, is the only poet to have his work published in The Times Literary Supplement and the Morning Star on the same day. He is the editor of Versions of the North: Contemporary Yorkshire Poetry and the Selected Poems of Harold Massingham. His own Selected Poems 1983-2023 was published in 2023. He runs the Read to Write group in Doncaster.
