Following further negotiations with UNISON,industrial action, largely affecting our Underground Tours, is confirmed to take place until Sunday 12 October. Although Underground Tours will be unavailable during this period, theMuseum Remains Open, and continues to share the important history of coal mining with our visitors. The check system showed who was underground at any time, both in case of emergencies and as an early form of
work record. They were also used by miners as tokens to collect their lamp or pay.
