The History of Denby Grange Collieries

The illustrated talk will look at the rise of Britain’s coal industry, the numerous pits that were developed at Denby Grange and how the colliery operated. It will examine the lives of the miners, the type of accidents that took place and how the workers struggled to obtain a better living. Finally, it will look at the decline of the industry post 1945 and the role of the museum in highlighting the importance of mining in British history.
