Update on Finn

It is with a heavy heart that we share the passing of Finn, our beloved Clydesdale horse, who brought warmth, wonder, and gentle strength to the Museum since joining us in April 2010.

Finn passed away yesterday (21/08/2025), after a brief illness. In his final moments he was looked after by our dedicated horsekeeper team. He was a cherished part of our lives and will be deeply missed.

Born in 2008, Finn stood tall, with a rich brown coat and a presence that was both majestic and comforting. Though he never worked in the coal mines, his breed’s legacy of hard work and resilience lived on in his quiet dignity and watchful spirit.

Finn was a cherished companion to staff, volunteers, and visitors alike. Always friendly, always curious, he loved attention and had a special way of making everyone feel seen. Between naps, he kept a watchful eye on everything happening at the Pony Discovery Centre, never missing a moment of the daily rhythm around him.

He was our gentle giant, a symbol of grace and history, whose absence will be profoundly felt.

Thank you, Finn, for the joy you brought to so many. May you rest peacefully, surrounded by open fields and warm sunshine.
