Following further negotiations with UNISON,industrial action, largely affecting our Underground Tours, is confirmed to take place until Sunday 12 October. Although Underground Tours will be unavailable during this period, theMuseum Remains Open, and continues to share the important history of coal mining with our visitors. This sectioned lamps shows the internal workings of a modern mining lamp. Underneath the bonnet you can see twin gauzes which make the lamp safe. In the fuel vessel in the base you can see wool which was used to stop the fuel sloshing about when miners were moving underrground.
