Following further negotiations with UNISON,industrial action, largely affecting our Underground Tours, is confirmed to take place until Sunday 12 October. Although Underground Tours will be unavailable during this period, theMuseum Remains Open, and continues to share the important history of coal mining with our visitors. The Ashworth HeppleWhite-gray lamp was designed specially for gas testing by James Ashworth in 1887. Specialist gas-testing lamps gave much more precise readings of how much methane gas was in the air.
They were manufactured by Davis of Derby from 1890s, appearing in their 1893 catalogue.
