The Museum is open Wednesday to Sunday, 9.45am-4pm / Free Entry

Following further negotiations with UNISON, industrial action, largely affecting our Underground Tours, is confirmed to take place until Wednesday 8 July 2026. Although Underground Tours will be unavailable during this period, the Museum Remains Open, and continues to share the important history of coal mining with our visitors. Discover three remarkable pieces of furniture designed by the celebrated Arts and Crafts architect and designer Charles Francis Annesley Voysey (1857–1941).

Originally commissioned in 1904 for the Miners’ Welfare Institute at Whitwood Colliery, West Yorkshire, the oak table and chairs are an exquisite example of Voysey’s work in a community setting.

The furniture has now been lovingly restored to its former glory, allowing us to share its story and the story of Whitwood Colliery buildings with future generations.
