Dino Discovery Day

Step into a Jurassic Adventure! Join us for an amazing day as we bring prehistoric magic to life.

Get prehistoric at our Dino Discovery Day, a roaring dinosaur event that’s fun for all ages. Discover how the creatures that once stomped across ancient forests helped shape the coal seams deep underground.

Unearth fossil secrets, see the spectacular Rock ‘n’ Coal Show for fantastic free performances, meet dinosaurs big and small (featuring a full-size T-Rex, two baby dinosaurs, and an over-the-shoulder dinosaur experience), enjoy dinosaur-themed crafts, experience a film screening of ‘The Good Dinosaur’, and learn how coal mines have uncovered traces of prehistoric life.

Throughout the day, experience live dinosaur shows, dinosaur walkabouts, dinosaur trail, plus lots of dinosaur goodies to purchase from our shop and on-site retailers.

Whether you’re a budding palaeontologist or just dino-curious, come join the adventure, the only thing cooler than dinosaurs is finding them at a coal mine!

10.30am – Walkabout

10.30am – 3.30pm – Makers’ Shed – Dinosaur Crafts at the Pony Discovery Centre

11am – Rock ‘n’ Coal Show

11.45am – Dino Show

12.45pm  – Rock ‘n’ Coal Show

1.30pm – Dino Show

2.15pm – The Good Dinosaur Screening

2.30pm – Rock ‘n’ Coal Show

3pm – Walkabout

Please note that, to ensure the best possible visitor experience, performance times may vary slightly depending on weather conditions. Our team will keep everything running as smoothly as possible on the day.

Please note: all entry to the museum is ticketed on this date. This includes access to the Dino Discovery Day activities, live shows, walkabouts and museum grounds.

Visitors will be given a wristband on entry, which must be worn at all times to access the event and museum site throughout the day.
