As part of Rugby Day which celebrates the important links between coal mining and Rugby League we are excited to offer a free screening of the classic film, This Sporting Life.

Filmed in Wakefield, ‘This Sporting Life’ tells the compelling story of Frank Machin (played by Richard Harris), a Yorkshire miner who becomes a rugby player. Despite having several women interested in him, Frank is infatuated with his widowed landlady, Mrs. Hammond (Rachel Roberts), who remains indifferent to his advances. As Frank’s rebellious nature is tolerated by the club as long as he performs well on the pitch, he begins to realise the emptiness of his existence, leading to mounting frustration.
