Banners and Brass

A fun-packed day of music and art activities for young brass players and their families

  • Celebrating the heritage of brass music and banners.
  • Bringing brass players together to compose and play new music.

Join us to take part in these free workshops. You can book on one workshop or book both and stay the whole day.

Composition Workshop: 10.30 - 12.00

Suitable for:  Young musicians aged 13 yrs + (beginners welcome)

In this informal, fun session you will work with a professional musician and composer to create new music using mining stories and symbolism for inspiration. This is a great opportunity to socialise with other brass players and musicians, have a go at composing and learn how to use stories and visual stimulus as inspiration for creating new music.

Family Brass Workshop: 13.00  - 14.30

Suitable for:  Young brass players and their families

An open session for young brass players and their families. Bring your instrument and learn a new piece of brass music especially written for this event, which will be shared with visitors at 3pm.

*If you are booking on to both workshops you will need to bring a packed lunch with you or bring some money to buy lunch in the cafe.

Drop-in Banner-making Workshop: 11:00 - 16:00

Drop-in to this relaxed art session and work with artists, from Edgelands Arts to create a banner using symbols and mottos associated with mining banners.

No need to book – you can drop-in at any point during the day.
