Experts & Volunteer Groups - make a difference!

We’re looking for more creative groups and 'expert' volunteers to get involved, both pre-existing and maybe new groups of people to start something new. You might want to share your skills with others as an occasional volunteer here at the Museum or commit to something more frequent. We're open to suggestions!

  • Read a blog about our creative group, The Coalshed Poets, which was set up and run by volunteers.

  • Find out about the Yorkshire Rugmakers who meet at the Museum & show visitors the traditional craft of rag rug making.

  • Find out about one of our 'expert' volunteers Eddie Downes.

Eddie, an ex-miner, is the author of a book recently launched here at the Museum and which is available to purchase in the Museum Book Shop. 'Yorkshire Collieries 1947-1994' tracks the history of 123 Yorkshire Collieries following Nationalisation of the coalmining industry.

Whether you're a creative wordsmith, 'expert' in your field or have a brilliant idea for a group of like-minded folks to meet up, we’d love to encourage people with passion to set up their own volunteer groups and inspire others. It could be through arts and crafts, performance poetry, geology, local history - we're open to suggestions!
