Who do you consider a hero of mining?

Share your hero stories with us.

Who do you consider a hero of mining? Maybe it is someone who showed you the ropes when just starting out in mining, or a relative that worked hard all their life to provide for their family. Perhaps it is someone that you have read about; an inventor, a social reformer or a rescue man going above and beyond.

There are lots of ways to nominate your hero.

  • If you come to the Museum, fill out a nomination card or talk to a member of staff.

  • If you can’t make it onsite, visit our online Hero’s hub, which includes lots of information such as our hero of the week and a heroes gallery.

    Nominate your hero now!

  • If you are on social media, you can nominate on the Museum’s Facebook page or on Twitter at #WhatIsHeroism

  • Commemorate a hero in your family in the Miners' Memorial Garden.

Family History & Research

Find out more about your hero by speaking to our friendly library team who can help you with researching mining history as well as local and family history. The Library also has information on many heroes in the mining industry.

You can also use the Ancestry website as part of the exhibition. If you want to learn more why not try one of our workshops.
