This time last year the Volunteer team got involved in National Volunteers' Week and shared their personal profiles and stories on the Museums' twitter and website. Sharing all sorts of insights into who they were, why they volunteer and what exactly they did to support the Museum.

The team is so much BIGGER this year and new opportunities for volunteering are emerging all the time. So we held our very own special event to celebrate National Volunteers' Week on Sunday June 5th. Visitors came and met the team on our Volunteer Showcase day and enjoyed first-hand, what our volunteers do to enhance the visitor experience both in front and behind the scenes. A special Pop up Poetry event won the crowds favour as visitors were asked to write words they associated with the underground mine before going down, and then were asked again to write about their experience when they came back up. Our team of volunteers then used these words to create a visual and insightful poem called 'Voices into the Dark'.
In support of our new exhibition 'Heroes and Heroines of the Coalfield' we're sharing our volunteer heroes and heroines everyday this week on social media. Keep a look out and if you have any stories to share of volunteers you've met whilst visiting the Musuem, we'd love to hear them!
If you'd like more information please contact our Volunteer Coordinator by email on email@example.com or telephone on 01924 848806 ext. 214.
We look forward to hearing from you!
