National Coal Mining Museum at the Wakefield Literature Festival
Posted on by Anita O'Donovan
The Museum will be taking part in the Wakefield Literature Festival for the first time this year which is very exciting for us.
The first event, Wacky Wednesday, is here at the Museum on 23rd September (10:15 – 11am) for under 5s and their carers - where you can meet Motty the Mole. It will include storytelling, singing and craft activities. It’s a great way to introduce small children to the museum and find out what else we have to offer them including the soft play area, a nature trail and our pit ponies, Eric and Ernie and our big horse Flynn.
The second event is an evening with former pit nurse Joan Hart, which will be taking place at the Orangery in Wakefield on Friday 25th September at 6pm – 7:30pm. Joan spent part of her nursing career looking after injured miners during the 1970s and 80s. Her recently published book At the Coalface recollects many of her stories and Joan will be telling us her stories along with her co-author Veronica Clark.
We do hope you will be able to join us at one of our events, both events are free however, if you would like to join us at the Orangery booking is required through the Literature Festival website www.wakefieldlitfest.org.uk or by calling 01924 831114. Alternatively you can call in at their box office at Unity Works, Westgate, Wakefield (Mon-Fri, 9am – 5pm).
