Santa’s Underground Grotto is officially opened at the National Coal Mining Museum
10/11/2008
A unique opportunity to meet Santa awaits families visiting the National Coal Mining Museum for England. Due to popular demand, Santa has returned to Wakefield and will be resident in his grotto every Saturday and Sunday from 22 November and then every Friday, Saturday and Sunday throughout December with extra dates on Monday 22 and Tuesday 23 December.
Santa said “I’ve already met lots of good children, everyone so far as been on my nice list! I’m very excited about meeting lots more families in my grotto before going home to prepare for flight on December 24”.
Families can travel 140 metres underground to meet Santa Claus in t’pit. Children who have been well behaved this year will also be given a present and the whole experience is sure to delight children and grown-ups alike. There will be a special Santa letterbox on the surface, so don’t forget to bring your letters for Santa. To add to the festive atmosphere, various festive activities will be taking place throughout December, including brass band performances, craft activities Punch and Judy and new for 2008 Find Rudolph.
The Lord Mayor of Leeds will be coming to the Museum on the 18 November to officially open Santa’s Underground grotto.
To complete the visit, there are unusual gift ideas in the souvenir shop, warm and festive food in the café and a chance to enjoy the winter scenery.
The Museum is a great place to keep kids occupied during the school holidays and there’s plenty to see and do without spending any money. There are a whole host of hands-on exhibitions for inquisitive minds, a gallery exploring life as a child during Victorian times and don’t forget to pay a visit to the pit ponies.
Please note that all Santa trips are now fully booked.
