The Library
The current Library on the main site opened in 2001. The Library is split into two parts, the study and the Library store.
The study is a small area, where Library staff can help with your enquiries, where you can browse through a small selection of our collection or conduct in-depth research in comfortable surroundings.
Please click here to access our online library catalogue.
Most of the Library collection is in a temperature-controlled store to which there is no public access. However staff are happy to retrieve items for visitors to view and use.
Whilst the Library has a wealth of published information about coal mining in England, archival information (e.g. employment records) is not kept, and local archives should be approached for this kind of information.
Please visit our Useful Links page to find out about local archives.
Maps in general are also not collected, unless as a part of a major collection. Historical maps can often be found in Local Studies Libraries.
Where is the Library?
The Library is on the main site of the Museum, next to the conference rooms and the café. Visit our virtual tour for more information.
