The Museum offers a wide range of stimulating, high-quality learning activities linked to the National Curriculum.
Whether you are looking for activities to support History, Science, Design and Technology or Literacy, our Education Team will be able to advise you about what activities will best suit your group and can help you plan your visit to meet your pupils' learning requirements.

Living-History Workshops
Take your pupils back in time and immerse them in coal mining history. Our live interpreters use drama
and role play to engage pupils and encourage them to empathise with people from the past.

How Science Works in the Mining Industry
The Museum is pleased to host hands-on science activities aimed at KS3 and KS4 pupils. Focusing on ‘How Science Works’, these sessions give pupils the opportunity to see and experience real science, set in a vocational context.

Science Made Simple
Aimed at KS1 and KS2, the interactive activities and exhibits at Hope Pit are designed to
complement the Science and Design Technology curriculum. A series of hands-on, curriculumlinked
workshops are available to bring science alive for your pupils.
